NDP Varsity softball team opened up the season at the Independence softball tournament on February 25, 26, and 27th with four games.
Game 1 was NDP vs Moon Valley. The Saints beat Moon valley 21 - 0. The team had a balanced offense collection 16 hits. Senior Dara Francis led the saints collecting four hits. Other mulitple hitting Saints were Tess McPherson, Lindsay Buckner, Nicole Bailey, Lanie Shuba, and Chloe Edmunds. Tess McPherson pitched a no hitter striking out 10 Moon Valley batters. McPherson had a command over the Moon Valley batters.
Game 2 was NDP Vs Peoria High School. The Saints lost 6 - 4 against an experienced Peoria Team. The Saints mounted a nice rally late in the game to just come up short. Lanie Shuba collected two hits and two RBI's for the Saints. Tess McPherson pitched an excellent game by the Saints who came up just short in the loss.
Game 3 was NDP Vs Copper Canyon. The Saints won 5 -3 against a tough Copper Canyon team. The offense was balanced with no multiple hitting Saint batters. The game was won by a gritty pitching performance by Lindsay Buckner and excellent fielding by shortstop Nicole Bailey.
Game 4 saw NDP verses Independence High School. The Saints rallied late in the game to come up just short in a losing effort 9 -6. Dara Francis had two doubles and Nicole Bailey two triples in the exciting game which saw the Saints mount a last inning rally to come up short ending the game with bases loaded. The young Saints (only 1 senior) finished the week 2 wins and 2 losses.
Next week the Saints play at home on Tuesday (Sunrise Mountain) and Wednesday (Seton Catholic). Both games start at 400pm.
